What exactly do CMP and CMM stand for, and why should I care?
The Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation certifies that individuals have a certain level of knowledge in meeting planning, and has helped to increase the respect and prestige the meeting profession gets. Additional benefits of holding the CMP include studies that show CMP's earn up to $10,000 more annually than non-CMP's. Applicants must be currently employed in meeting management, need to have at least three years experience, and have responsibility and accountability for the successful completion of meetings. The program is administered by the Convention Industry Council. For further information contact the Chapter's CMP Committee or call the CIC at (703) 610-9030.
The Global Certification in Meeting Management (CMM) focuses on strategic issues and executive decision making for senior meeting professionals. The program is designed specifically for meeting managers who have approximately ten years of experience. Further information is available from MPI's Professional Development Department at (972) 702-3026. |

Why should I maintain my membership?
This question has no simple answer. The benefit of membership in an organization such as VAMPI varies with each individual member. In general, membership in VAMPI allows you to meet and get to know a wide variety of individuals in the industry in a low-pressure environment. The network of contacts can be invaluable when you have a last minute event to plan or catastrophe to avert. Further, the monthly meetings offered by VAMPI allow members to stay up-to-date with some of the myriad issues facing the profession and the VAMPI newsletter, The VAMPI Voice , provides a valuable resource for industry and state information. |
