To VAMPI Members -

 

The leadership of the MPI Virginia Chapter is a continuous process. Now is the time to begin thinking about making a commitment to serve your Chapter or to nominate someone else for a particular responsibility. Your nominations are needed for each of the positions listed below no later than Friday, February 12, 2010.  Each nominee will receive a Candidate Interest Form that must be completed to be considered for a position by the Nominating Committee.  Please contact me if you need to discuss any aspect of this important procedure at (703) 537-4251 or email stephen.scarborough@westin.com

Nomination Form for 2010-2011 Officers & Directors

 

 

Officers

 

Eligibility and Term of Office: To be an officer, a member must have served actively on the Board of Directors or as a Committee Chair for a minimum of one year. Each elected officer shall take office on July 1, 2010, and shall serve for a term of one year. An elected officer shall be eligible for re-election to the same office for a second term, but not to exceed two consecutive terms (per the Chapter Bylaws, Article VI, and Policies and Procedures, Section 3).

 

President. The President shall serve as Chairman of both the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. The President shall also serve as a member, ex-officio, with right to vote on all committees except the Nominating Committee. The President or designee will serve as a member of the International Council of Chapter Presidents. Chapter Bylaws state that the current President-Elect will automatically succeed to the office of President. Major responsibilities: strategic planning, overall management.

                                                                                              

President-elect. The President-elect shall preside at all meetings in the absence of the President and shall perform such other duties as may be delegated by the President and/or the Board of Directors. The President-elect will focus their efforts on succession planning and leadership development as well as overseeing the work of the Director of Leadership Development. This is a preparatory position for progression to the office of the President the following year. Major responsibilities: leadership succession and mentoring.

 

Vice President of Finance. The Vice President of Finance shall oversee the chapter's funds and financial records; shall collect all funds and/or assessments; shall establish proper accounting procedures for the handling of funds; and shall be responsible for the keeping of the funds in such banks, trust companies, and/or investments as are approved by the Executive Committee. The Vice President of Finance shall report on the financial condition of the Chapter at all meetings of the Board of Directors and at other times when called upon by the President. The Vice President of Finance shall file chapter tax reports to MPI, the Internal Revenue Service and state agencies as required. The Vice President of Finance shall also oversee the work of the Director of Fundraising and Special Events. Major responsibilities: budget and financial statements.

 

Vice President of Membership. The Vice President of Membership shall oversee new member recruitment, new member orientation, member recognition programs, scholarships and Chapter retention. The Vice President of Membership will access membership reports from the MPI database and report at all meetings of the Board of Directors and at other times when called upon by the President. Major responsibilities: manage and supervise recruitment, member care, awards and scholarships.

 

Vice President of Education. The Vice President of Education shall oversee meeting registration, logistics, content and speaker sourcing for all meetings of the Chapter. In addition they will oversee any regional educational conference, leadership institutes, the Women's Leadership Initiative, CMP/CMM programs, and the Multi-cultural initiative so long as these programs are current and active programs within MPI. They will oversee any additional programs that MPI may in the future decide to launch and that reasonably fall under the jurisdiction of the Vice President of Education. The Vice President of Education will report at all meetings of the Board of Directors and at other times when called upon by the President. Major responsibilities: supervise monthly programs, professional development and special educational projects.

 

Vice President of Communications. The Vice President of Communications shall oversee the Chapter newsletter, which shall publish on at least a quarterly basis as required by MPI minimum standards; a Chapter member directory if produced by the Chapter; the Chapter website if maintained by the Chapter; any communication of Chapter activities to the media; the sale of banner advertisements on the website (if maintained by the Chapter); local charity events; and government affairs and advocacy. The Vice President of Communications will report at all meetings of the Board of Directors and at other times when called upon by the President. Major responsibilities: manage publications and public relations, community service programs.

 

Directors

 

Eligibility and Term of Office: To be a director, you must be a member, in good standing, of the Chapter.  Each elected Director shall take office on July 1, 2010 for a two-year term and is responsible for, along with other Board members, determining Chapter policies and pursuing Chapter objectives. A director shall be eligible for re-election to the same office for a second term, but not to exceed two consecutive terms (per the Chapter Bylaws, Article VIII, and Policies and Procedures, Section 3).

 

Director of Sponsorships - Develop and maintain Chapter sponsorships.

 

Director of Fundraising and Special Events - Build revenue in addition to meeting registration fees.

 

Director of Monthly Meetings - Manage arrangements for all aspects of the Chapter's monthly educational meetings.

 

Director of Recruitment Establish annual membership goals, develop and maintain ongoing campaign to reach goal, welcome and orient new members.

 

Director of Member Care Develop and maintain ongoing campaigns to retain membership and offer members recognition for their contributions to the Chapter and the industry.

 

 

Your response for nominations of Officers and Directors is vital to the complete representation of the Chapter. Please help us put together a leadership team that will share a common vision for the future success of our chapter. Please note that those individuals currently serving in these positions are eligible for re-nomination.
